Today it was up early to catch a Virgin train from London Euston to Liverpool. We booked this some time ago from NZ and managed to get the tickets for 46 pounds each which was a very reasonable price we obtained by booking 3 months out. We picked up our tickets at the ticket machine at Welwyn Garden City earlier in the week. We decided to vary our plan slightly as you scan walk some long distances getting in and out of Underground Stations. So we got on the 9:40 service frm Welwyn Garden City to Kings Cross then got a cab down to Euston Station where the Train to Liverpool left from. We arrived at 10:30 for our 11:15 train, so we availed ourselves of the 1st class lounge, which certainly wasn't as flash as it sounds. After a minor hiccup of getting stuck in the lift on our way down, we made it on to he train in plenty of time. The train left right on time. the seating was pretty good, but the food and wi-fi certainly weren't to write home about. The train was pretty fast and we tracked it at a shade over 200 km/h for most of the journey and arrived in Liverpool on time at 1:54pm. We were met by Michael and Pam for a whistle stop tour of Liverpool including the city sights and tourist spots then it was off to the Freshfield pub ("Freshies") for a delicious meal and a pint.
